The Future
Some bad news: May 21st will be the last launch from this factory.
We've made the difficult decision to suspend our relationship with the factory that's been making our skirts since 2023. Several things went into this decision, including: rapidly increasing costs, production delays, and poor communication.
We hope that with time we'll be able to work with them again, but at this point it's unsustainable. Many of you are already aware that we've been fighting to stay open for the last six months or so, and this has been a major contributor to that struggle.
We've received samples from several factories, and we've made the big decision to move forward with three so far! All of these factories are SEDEX certified, the same as the factory you're already familiar with, with some having additional certifications including OEKO-TEX and CPSIA. In broadest terms, SEDEX corroborates that a factory has good working conditions and that workers are properly paid, OEKO-TEX tests the materials used in the creation of garments to ensure they are safe for human contact, and CPSIA tests products to ensure they are safe for children.
Working with multiple factories will be more work, but it'll provide more stability — if things go wrong with one factory, we’ll still have another to rely on. Each factory will have a small list of garments they handle, meaning one factory might handle skirts and another might handle button dresses, etc. This helps us ensure consistency in both quality and scheduling, since different garments require different types and amounts of labor.
Changing factories will also help us keep prices down. We’re all feeling the squeeze right now and time and again the most common criticism we get on our clothing is the price. We won’t be able to hit anything near fast fashion prices—certified ethical labor will always cost more—but we’ll be able to maintain or even decrease the cost of many of our garments going forward.
Additionally, the new skirts after this Thursday’s launch will be cotton box skirts, just like our previous cotton collections, and since the minimum order per design will be lower, we'll be able to run more skirt designs per batch and we’ll be able to restock sold out designs more frequently!
We’ll be sad to see the polyester circle skirts go—they’ve been our staple for so long and so many of y’all have raved about their stain resistance, longevity, and twirl factor—but we hope you’ll love our new skirts even more, just as we do.
We have approved samples for printed skirts, silk scrunchies, and wrap tops, and we have additional samples coming for new pajama sets, picnic tops, and maybe some other stuff we weren't able to make before due to constraints from our previous factory (including finally being able to print hem design skirts on cotton). 👀
We hope you're excited to see how we grow! Our goal is to reach stability so we don't have to constantly complain about how much we're struggling — we hate it, you hate it, we'd like to move on. This change will also allow us to lower prices on many products while maintaining the necessary profit margins to fund new product development.
Thank you so much for bearing with us, we're excited to see where things go ❤️
